Your Job Summary

Reporting to the supervisor and the foreman, Finish carpenters encompass all work done inside a house after framing, sheathing, wiring, plumbing, insulation and drywall have been installed. This includes door and window installation and trim, fitting interior doors, wood and laminate flooring installation, wainscoting, crown moulding and cabinet installation. The carpenter assists in the development of projects by constructing, erecting, installing and repairing structures/fixtures made of wood and other materials. They must interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches in order to plan properly. Skilled Labourers will also participate in predevelopment by taking measurements and evaluating the size and amount of material needed. To succeed at this position, the carpenter will produce quality results that align with project timelines and building codes.

Your Responsibilities

  • Required to have your own CSA-approved work boots, hardhat, safety glasses and gloves.

  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements.

  • Create blueprints that align with project needs and health & safety regulations.

  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed.

  • Maintain, repair and update wooden structures in residential and commercial buildings.

  • Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fibreglass) according to measurements.

  • Build window frames, doors, staircases and frame buildings using raw materials or pre-constructed items.

  • Layout floorings, roofing or drywall and ensure that they are levelled and compatible.

  • Carve, assemble and install furniture, cabinets, shelves and other items.

  • Assist in building foundation and placing floor beams.

  • Inspect workplace and perform repairs and maintenance as required.

  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures.

  • Train apprentices.

  • Communicate project concerns with the supervisor and foreman.

  • Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions.

Your Qualifications and Skills

  • Construction Management experience in supervising multiple projects and has seen through a magnitude of projects from start to finish.

  • Carpenter experience.

  • Exceptional understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.

  • Thorough understanding of the Ontario Building Code.

  • Committed to continuous education by researching advancements in the trade.

  • Fluent with methods of installation and construction.

  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)

  • Required to follow safety guidelines at all times.

  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings.

  • Ability to speak and read English.

  • Good understanding of basic math.

Your Working Conditions

At Laframboise Construction, we work during all seasons of the year. This can require working in the heat of the summer and cold in the winters. It is very irregular to work on a weekend unless deadlines or projects require it and we have approval of the employee and customer.

Physical requirements

You will be required to lift objects up to 50lbs.
